CVTC was asked to consult and provide technical assistance to US AID and the US Department of Justice working with a select group of criminal justice specialists from Romania on the collaboration of health care institutions and the criminal justice agencies in fighting violence against women and human trafficking crimes.
St. Luke’s-Roosevelt and CVTC were one of six sites visited by members of the National Research Council for the National Academy of Science in Washington, DC. who were charged with recommending a national policy for domestic violence.
The US Senate Judiciary Committee requested our testimony concerning allocation of funds for the Violence Against Women Act and Crime Bill in Washington, D.C.
Three CVTC staff members traveled to Croatia at the invitation of the Red Cross of Bosnia-Herzegovina to provide rape trauma training to health care providers and local non-governmental grassroots organizers in Zagreb and Split.
Two CVTC staff members were invited to the Bahamas to provide consultation and training to law enforcement and health care professionals.
We receive delegations and representatives from around the world who come to us for information and training resources for clinical practice and sexual assault and domestic violence policy writing. Recently, we have been hosts to visiting delegations from Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa, all sponsored by the Africa Fund.
We have hosted Maria Elena Palomino, District Attorney for Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence in Mexico, and a group of psychologists from Hiroshima and Osaka hoping to establish Japan’s first crime victim assistance center.
At the request of the United Nations Population Fund, we have also hosted a group of international journalists researching the treatment of sexual assault. We provided consultation to a special UN committee that was creating a manual for third world countries dealing with treatment for rape and domestic violence.
