Established in 1977, the Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital is now the largest and most comprehensive hospital-based victim assistance program in New York State. CVTC has provided a model for other health care institutions in the United States and around the world in the respectful treatment of survivors of family and intimate partner violence, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, and other forms of violence and crime. Our mission is to empower survivors of violence through:
- TREATMENT: providing compassionate clinical and supportive services which are accessible to victims of crime and to their loved ones without regard to residence or ability to pay.
- COLLABORATION: developing innovative collaborations in order to expand resources and options, bridge service gaps, and promote integrated responses to the needs of crime victims.
- EDUCATION: providing trainings on violence prevention and effective treatment of survivors of violence to schools, law enforcement, other health care professionals and the community at large.
- RESEARCH: developing and implementing research initiatives to increase understanding of the complex social and psychological consequences of violence for victims and for society and to identify best practice models.
